Summer Reading

Summer is the perfect time for splashing in the pool, playing in the park and also for reading lots of books. You can join in the summer reading fun at the Hiram Halle Memorial Library by participating in the summer reading game!

I love the theme—Catch the Reading Bug. Just yesterday, I asked my 3-year-old daughter what she learned at preschool. She replied, “ I learned about INSECTS! An insect is a small bug.” I was impressed. Then I thought about the last creepy-crawly thing I saw and pictured the spider that had settled between the wall and ceiling in our living room that morning. But…

Q: Is a spider an insect?

A: Spiders are arachnids. They eat insects. Arachnids have eight legs and two body segments. Insects have six legs and three body segments.

If you want to learn more about spiders, there is this great new book that is loaded with facts and fabulous photos. It is called (What else?) Spiders by Nic Bishop.

And here are some great buggy titles check out…

Ace Lacewing, Bug Detective by David Biedrzycki
Diary of a Fly by Doreen Cronin
Inspector Hopper by Doug Cushman
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

I can't wait to read about the great books PRES students are reading this summer!
